For anyone following the news about tomorrow’s rehearing on the permit to drill for oil near Bear Butte State Park in the Black Hills, we hear that the Rosebud Sioux, Lower Brule Sioux, Yankton Sioux, and Standing Rock Sioux tribes of North and South Dakota, the Northern Cheyenne of Montana and Santee Sioux of Nebraska have all intervened in the case to communicate the cultural, spiritual and historical significance of Bear Butte to their tribes and to object to drilling activities in such close proximity.
